MyPlate: Rethink Your Drink

Do you know how many calories are in your drink? Sugar-sweetened drinks are a major contributor to the alarming rise in obesity in America. Join Jo Cessna, Healthy Culinary Instructor, and a member of Kish Hospital Community Wellness, to learn ways to rethink your favorite drinks, cut back on soda, juice and other sugary beverages and taste healthy alternatives. Prepared Childbirth

Join us to learn breathing, relaxation and comfort techniques; medications; and the signs, stages and variations of labor, and cesarean births. Tour the Kish Hospital Maternity Suites. Labor companions learn about giving support during the birthing process. The cost is $75 per couple. The class is from July 18 to Aug. 15, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Kish Hospital’s Roberts Conference Center. Registration is required for this program and closes three days before the program date. Eating Healthy on a Budget

Do you feel like you can’t eat healthy because of the cost? Lynn Fifer, Kish Hospital Registered Dietitian, provides tips and strategies for eating the healthiest food options on a limited budget. Join us for recipes and food tips on preparing low cost, quick, healthy meals for you and your family. The free class is on July 18, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the DeKalb Public Library. Breastfeeding Class

Learn the benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby, getting started, preventing common problems and how to pump and store breast milk. The cost is $15 per couple. Sibling Class

Children ages 2 to 7 will benefit from this class by learning how babies look, act and behave. Children tour a room in the Kish Hospital Maternity Suites, visit a newborn in the nursery, practice holding a baby and watch a video about big brothers and sisters. The class fee is $10 per family. Tour of the Kish Hospital Maternity Suites

Kish Hospital encourages expectant parents to join us for a walking tour of the beautiful and spacious Kish Hospital Maternity Suites. The tour is free, but registration is required. This tour is also given as a part of our Prepared Childbirth classes. The tour is on July 21 from 1 to 2 p.m. Registration is required for this program and closes three days before the program date. Girls Only… Your Changing Body

The Girls Only… Your Changing Body class is for 9 to 12-year-old girls and their moms. The natural physical and emotional changes a young girl experiences can be overwhelming and puzzling. Knowing what to expect can lessen anxiety and make the transition smoother. The fee for the class is $10 per family. Fit and Fun Senior Workout

Are you looking for a fitness program tailored especially for older adults? Unlimited Performance offers this specially designed program to help you reach your maximum physical potential through stretching, balance, light cardio, light weights, exercise bands, and core strengthening. Class size limited to 12 people. Classes meet from July 23 through Sept. 14, from 9 to 10 a.m. or noon to 1 p.m. at Unlimited Performance Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine, Sycamore.
