The Egyptian Theatre’s fourth annual “Ride Like An Egyptian” bicycle recreational ride will be held on Saturday, September 24. Begun in 2008, the benefit ride attracts cyclists from all over the Midwest. The ride begins and ends at the Egyptian Theatre located at 135 N. 2nd St. in DowntownDeKalb,IL. Riders have the option of riding 25, 50, 75, or 100 miles throughout east-centralDeKalbCounty and west-centralKaneCounty. The ride features a well-stocked central rest stop inMaplePark.
Routes are clearly marked and rider-friendly integrated map/cue sheets will be provided. This year’s ride again features radio-dispatched SAG support courtesy of the Kishwaukee Amateur Radio Club. North Central Cyclery of DeKalb will again provide riders with pre-ride professional tech support during registration. For the first time this year there will be professional tech support during the ride at the central rest stop provided by the Village Pedaler of South Elgin.
An end-of-ride meal will again be provided for registered riders featuring soup, sandwiches, vegetable/cheese/cracker trays, and desserts. Nonparticipating family and friends can purchase meal tickets for $5.00.
The preregistration cost for adults 16 and over is $20 ($25 after September 10). The preregistration cost for youth under 16 is free with paid adult rider ($5 after September 10). Riders under 16 must ride with a participating parent or guardian. Riders may register online at www.egyptiantheatre.org or at the Egyptian Theatre the day of the ride from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. The ride closes at 4 p.m. The ride goes on rain or shine. T-shirts featuring the ride logo are available in blue, green, or yellow for $10 ($12 after September 10).
The Egyptian Theatre is operated by the Preservation of the Egyptian Theatre, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Proceeds from this benefit will be used for the ongoing operation, maintenance, and preservation of the Egyptian Theatre.
