City of Sycamore Cooling Centers Identified


Sycamore, June 7, 2011– Police Chief Don Thomas and Fire Chief Mark Kessler announced today that the following facilities serve as area “cooling centers” for those who need relief from the heat for a short while:


  1. Sycamore Public Library @ 103 East State Street

Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Friday –Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.


  1. Sycamore Police Department @ 535 DeKalb Avenue

Open 24 hours- Every Day


All residents are encouraged to check on elderly neighbors and family members to ensure they are safe and as comfortable as possible. Police, Fire and EMS (Emergency Medical Services) should be contacted immediately (911) if anyone needs urgent medical treatment.


Those not needing immediate medical treatment, but still seeking a temporary respite from the heat should go to one of the above cooling centers or call the DeKalb County Communications Center at 815.895.2123 for further information.
